Description
Black Oak honey — often called Oak Honeydew — is one of the rarest honeys there is. Unlike ordinary honey, the bees never visit a flower. They gather honeydew from the sap of oak trees, and that is what gives this jar its colour and its character.
The King of the Forest
Deep, dark and unusually robust, our Black Oak Honey is harvested from oak forests in the high-altitude regions of Lebanon. It tastes nothing like a floral honey: less sweet, closer to caramel and malt, with a long woody finish. Spoon it over labneh or aged cheese, stir it into strong tea, or eat it on its own.
- Not from flowers. Honeydew honey, gathered from oak sap rather than nectar — which is why it is so dark.
- Naturally rich in minerals. Oak honeydew honey is naturally higher in iron, potassium and magnesium than lighter floral honeys.
- Deep, malty, barely sweet. Robust enough to stand up to strong cheese and black coffee.
- Raw and unfiltered. Nothing added, nothing heated, nothing taken out. It may crystallise over time — that is normal, and a sign it is raw.
Harvested in small quantities each season, so availability is limited.
